"Boilermaker", "Somethin's Cookin", "Rock N Roll City",
"Graceland" & "White Trash Tragedy". Everybody had a
great time tonight. The music sounded so good it just
put everybody in a rock n roll mood. Lots of folks
dancin' and laughin'. Local hero Herman Granati got up
early in the second set joining in on keyboards and
vocals. Herman immediately caught the groove on "Burnin'
Up". He was then featured on an old Spencer Davis tune
"Give Me Some Lovin'. "That Girl", "Heat Of The Night"
and "Love Dog" all satisfied audience request. Norman
really seemed to enjoy the addition of keyboards on this
special rock n roll evening.

Once again a magic night. A perfect mix of music and
bull crap. Norman started out the night playin' his ass
off. "Bulldog" was a trip. "Play" was rippin'. Whitey &
Harry were kickin' it. "Boilermaker" was an adventure.
As has been the custom, Thursday night at Moondog's
there were a few special guest appearances. Chuck Koeler
has been comin' out and singin'. Tonight he played
guitar and sang and sounded great. Longtime Moondog
regular, Ray, came up played guitar on "Gloria" and
"Baby Please Don't Go". Tonya came don from Erie and did
a few Janis Joplin numbers. Shades sang "Dead Flowers",
all the while Norman, Whitey & Harry played their hearts

Late start so the guys just played about 2 hours and 20
minutes straight. Nobody left early so it was a good
rock n roll night all the way around. "Boilermaker" and
"Somethin' Cookin'" both smoked! "Nothin' To Lose" was a
serious showcase for Norman's manful guitar style. Yeah!
That's Pittsburgh rock n roll buddy! Norman dedicated
"We Come A Long Way" to the people who've been comin' to
his shows for 20 years or more. New song "Wild Yonder
Blues" turned into a serious slide guitar storm! "Bow
Legged Woman" got a lot of applause tonight. For the
last half hour of the night, Whitey Cooper took over on
vocals while Norm's cousin Pete Oddo took over on drums.
"Sweet Soul Music", "Shamalama Ding Dong", "Try
Me".....Everybody was dancin' and Whitey Cooper was da
man!

There were some special performance tonight. "Bow Legged
Woman" really came off well. Norman sounded great. He
took his time and had his black Strat talkin'! Someone
in the audience yelled out "Play somethin' from "This
Ole Train!" and it came to pass. Another requested song
kicked butt "Easy Money". What a great Pittsburgh rock n
roll statement "Easy Money" is! What a shame Pittsburgh
radio never figured it out! Once again "We Come A Long
Way" came up big. Tonight Norman sang a Buddy Miller
tune "Don't Tell Me". Chuck Koeler came up and did 3
songs. "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Teddy Bear" and "A
Man In Love". Chuck's been soundin' really good lately.

Tonight we rocked! Lord Have Mercy! We rocked!
"Boilermaker", "Rck N Roll City", "White Trash Tragedy"
and "Somethin's Cookin'". Yeah, it just came pourin' out
all over everybody. Excuses is a great club to hear
Norman play. Whitey sang "Chain Gang" in the first set.
Then in the second set he got up and sang 5 or 6 soul
tunes while Norman's old friend from New York City,
Lenny Ferrari (Lou Reed's former drummer) banged out the
beat. Whitey was soul shoutin' serious! "Ole Number 21"
sounded great tonight, as did "We Come A Long Way".
Where were you?

You should have been at Moondog's tonight. The over 2
hour first set was filled with all the new songs
Norman's been writin'. "Boilermaker", "Somethin's Cookin'",
"White Trash Tragedy", "Nothin' To Lose", "Graceland", "Shackin'
Up". Did I mention how much fun everybody had tonight?
Norman was out of his mind. Whitey, Harry & several
audience members were bustin' his balls. The Manful
Hanful was on a roll talkin' loud and sayin' nothin'.
Set 2 opened with "Ole Number 21". New song "We Come A
Long Way" really got a great round of applause tonight.
"Burnin' Up" closed out a great night of music mixed
with White Trash insanity.

There's a nice thing happening at Moondog's on Thursday
nights. It started off with "Bulldog", "Somethin's
Cookin'" and "Boilermaker". Then a serious portion of
Norman's bullcrap. They don't call him "little big
mouth" for nothin! Norman's been talkin' about Michael
Jackson on Thursday nights a lot. He mentioned a song a
friend of his from Cleveland wrote. The lyrics for the
song are "come sit on my lama but don't tell your
mamma!" He then Moon walked across the stage! "Sick N
Tired" ended the first set with Whitey sounding
fantastic doin' his falsetto gospel style vocals. New
song "We Come A Long Way" really sounded powerful
tonight. Set two started with a Happy Birthday for
Patty, straight into her favorite song, "I Seen Too
Much".

Not a big crowd tonight but it seemed everybody had a
great time. Norman started things off nice n easy as he
really seemed to connect with the Youngstown people. A
couple of tunes stood out tonight..."Wild Yonder Blues",
"Shackin' Up", "We Come A Long Way" and "Million Tears".
Tonight's sound man Steve got up and played some guitar
and sang very soulfully. Norman sat and smiled watching
as Whitey & Harry played with one of Youngstown's
finest. "Smoke Two Joints" closed out the night.

Wilberts: (Norman & The Guys following the
Cleveland Indians Home Opener!!!) New club Downtown
Cleveland across from "The Jake" (Jacob's Field)
6 p.m. - 9 p.m. - Mon.
Opening day of Cleveland Indian baseball. Around 400
drunken people filled the downtown Cleveland Club,
wearing Indian hats and jackets. Norman and the guys
came to play. "Rock N Roll City", "White Trash Tragedy",
"Heat Of The Night", "Easy Money". Tonight wasn't a
night for the polite music. Tonight was a night to stuff
Pittsburgh rock n roll down the faces of Cleveland Ohio.
They say Cleveland is the rock n roll capital of the
world. Tonight, Cleveland got rocked world class and it
was good!

"Lazy Bones", "If I Had A Child", then about 10 minutes
of mindless b.s. from the Manful Hanful. I love
everything about Thursday night at Moondog's. Boxcar
Harry, the Hobo Bottoms, sang "King Of The Road". Norman
did a more complete version of "Pecker Tracks N Skid
Marks" than last week. He also revived an old song
called "Somethin' Cookin'" that sounded pretty good.
Chuck Koeler sang a couple songs in the first set, then
came back to play guitar in the second set. Ronnie
"Moondog" Esser closed out the night singin' his ass
off. "Bow Legged Woman" and "Send You Back" both came
off real well tonight. |
