Bocktown
Grill: Pittsburgh, Pa.
This is a sweet suburban bar that’s
making an effort to feature original music. LUV DAT! We
went out to experience a different approach in our
effort to feature original music. Mr. Harold J Bottoms
and I took this opportunity to feature Shari Richards
singing a bunch of Norman songs. We didn’t really
prepare as much as I would have liked to, but ya gotta
jump in sometime, so we jumped. We did a few bluesy
standards as well as stuff like “Minimum Wage”, which
took on a whole new feel with a female behind those
lyrics. How bout “New Blood”?…….STRONG…..I screwed up da
end of da solo…..aay …whata ya gonna do? We had our way
with “Rich Kid”, but we could have done a better job on
the BG vocals. “Million Tears” came off without a hitch
as did “Three Times Your Fool”. I was glad we got the
chance to hear Shari sing “Pennsylvania Rain” and the
new song I wrote last month “The Blues Come Blowin’ In
“. I saw an ole friend Leah, whose now working at FROGGY,
and met a new friend Jack, who, I’m guessing is as crazy
as me. I also saw a buddy from the Penn Hills area,
circa… bout…. say…. 1969? Donny McGirk, da drummer.
Young Katie Simone got up onstage and sang “Be My Baby”,
which I started in the wrong key, hate it when I do
that. She also did a take on “Dead Flowers”, Shari and I
hit some cool harmonies on that joint. Hey, Katie’s
soundin great. I forced Sam Klinginsmith up on stage to
sing “Help Me Make It Thru the Night”, he’s da bomb. We
also had a nice local girl sing a subtle take of “Bobby
McGee”. I appreciated the anti bombastic approach, as
this particular song has been strangled by so many
violent-repeat offenders. I hate my guts for not
remembering her name. |
