The Starlite: Blawnox, PA
This was
an exciting show for me because it was an
opportunity to play in a unique format, no drums.
Harry n’ I were joined by Sam Klinginsmith AKA
Lamont Samuels who played dobro, mandolin, accordion
n’ acoustic guitar, he also helped out wit da sangin’.
We kicked it wit “I’m A Man”, “Playin In A Rock n’
Roll Band” n’ “The Morning After”. The room was
feelin it…..Harry sang “Pot’s n’ Pans”…my ole buddy
Grant yelled out for Lamont to sing a song dat Mike
Sweeny n’ Lamont wrote back in da 90’s, “Ride Out
The Rain” …….I joined in to sing da high harmony
part n’ got goose bumps cause it felt so
powerful…..”The Tree” faded into “Sick n’ Tired”
which faded into fan fave “Shit House Rat”. Thought
I should try something new so I did”It Is What It
Is” for da first time. “The Horse Your Ridin” rang
out proud…..got my nerve up n’ tried another new one
“Three Kings In Memphis”……..Lamont sang some ole
bluegrass tune dat just ripped…….We played da “Just
Because Polka” while some weirdo danced around in a
pierogi costume n’ some other weirdo biker danced
around in a red see thru teddy. After da break we
hit “Nightriders”, “America’s Son”, “Comin’ Home”,
“I Was Blind”, “Today I Stepped In Somethin” ……..
Lamont sang his tune “Boontowns n’ Ghostowns” …….

Harry,
Brice n’ I opened da show for da JJ Burner CD
release party tonight. “Lazy Bones”, “Rebel Rouser”,
“Somethin’s Cookin”, “America’s Son”, “The Tree”,
“Shit House Rat”, Harry Bottoms stepped up to da
mike n’ sang “Pots n’ Pans” then Brice Foster sang
“If I Had A Child” we closed out our set wit
“Pittsburgh PA” n’ “Little Things”. After a short
pause the JJ Burner took da stage, wiht Mike
Floccari on drums, Big Sexy Greg Sejko on bass, Sam
Satler on guitar, Bob Powers on lap steel, Shari
Richards on lead vocals, n’ me on guitar. This
lineup was put together just for tonight’s show,
Mark Stutso, who sang lead on the new JJ Burner
release, “Roll On”, is out on da road workin wit da
Nighthawks n’ Warren King who blazed guitar on the
CD passed away in January, so Shari n’ I stood in
for da show. “Laughin’ Bout My Baby”, “Tender
Touch” n’ “ Troubles” all from da Roll On CD opened
up da set wiht a bang. Shari then ripped up “The
Blues Come Blowin In”. I did da lead vocal on “Why”
n’ Shari sang da title cut “Roll On”. By this time
we was all gittin loose n’ enjoying da moment. Shari
did “Let The Good Times Roll” n’ I did “Starlite
Blue” as Bob Powers echoed out some very cool but
creepy lines on his steel guitar. Moondog cooked up
some lick for da party so we all greezed a bit
before last last set which included “Teeny Weeny
Bit”, “Down By The River”, “Folsom Prison
Blues” n’ “I Hate A Nickel”…..Sam Satler stood out
on a few numbers on this night n’ a couple times I
just stopped playin n’ checked out his thang….Moondog
got up wiht us n’ chirrped out “I Shall Be
Released”……..good time……good vibe
