with Tom Compton on drums, to git it
started with “Lazy Bones” & “Mercy
Mercy”. Shari Richards took center stage
and started workin…tunes like “Minimum
Wage”, “Victoria’s Secret” & “New Blood”
take on a different vibe when Shari
comes t’ town…..Right? Set 1 closed with
a slick take of “I Hate A Nickel” that
had Shari singin BGV’S wit Harry. Freddy
Ferraro, a 91 year old drummer and
father of my buddy Lenny, played a cool
take on “Help Me”, the ole Sonny Boy
number. Tom Compton got back on tubs &
we ripped “Tequilla”. Shari sang “Let
The Good Times Roll” & “Down By The
River”, then did a bunch of my tunes,
“Look What You Done”, “Rich Kid”, ”Three
Times Your Fool”, “The Blues Come Blowin
In”, “You Go Your Way”, “Million
Tears”………..da sun was shinnin, folks was
drinkin wine, everybody was doin fine.

real smooth with “Lazy Bones”, “Till The
Cows Come Home”, “Rebel Rouser” …we did
some newer tunes like “The Tree”,
“America’s Son”, “Shit House Rat” &
‘’Comin’ Home” …Brice Foster did a good
job singing “If I Had A Child” We
brought Mike Vale, da ole bass player
from Tommy James and the Shondel’s”,
onstage to sing. We also brought Jay
McKnight up to play acoustic guitar and
sing background vocals. This was
cool….we did “Man Of Constant Sorrow”,
“Bring It On Home”, “Georgia On My Mind”
& “America The Beautiful”…both Mike and
Jay sounded great & got loads of
applause. Set 2 kicked off with
“Kingfish”. Harry sang “Pot’s n’ Pans”
in a lower key and found a few sweet
spots…we got requests for a few older
tunes “Nothin’ To Lose”, “T-Bird” &
“Look What You Done”……long time local
drummer Pat got up to sing “Ain’t No
Sunshine” & “Mustang Sally”….as always,
da Fireman’s club was rockin strong……

I hung out at the petting zoo……”Lazy
Bones”, “Rebel Rouser”, “Rock n’ Roll

strong take of “The Blues Come Blowin

downtown small town affairs really can
take ya to a cool place in American
culture that we all need to be reminded
that it still exists….”Pittsburgh, PA”,
“The Tree”, “American Son”…. We did
“Love Dog” & brought three beautiful
young girls onstage to do the barking
background vocals…….and they stole da
show…….”Little Things” soared….we closed
it out with a wild take of “Ring Of
Fire”…….I love gittin wit da peoples…..I

now, there ain’t nothing I luv more than
letting da monkey loose…..we hit wit ha
groove, “Lazy Bones”. “ole cow died wit
a rag in his” ….. “Rebel Rouser”,
“Somethin’s Cookin”, “I Hate A Nickel”,
saw some folks in da house I ain’t seen
in a coon’s age, mostly flatlanders that
crossed da line in da nicka’
time…right?...”The Blues Come Blowin In”
cast a spell over some of the hungry
ears out there…ya baby…”Pittsburgh, PA”
came across well, considering we were so
close to the flatlands. We blew “Rich
Kid” up pretty slick…sent “Boilermaker”
out to the late great Glenn Pavone & got
a ton of applause at da mention of his
name…da legend lives…. “Little Things”
lit ‘em up…wasn’t knocked out at our
take of “America’s Son” tonight…it’s a
work in progress…..right about this time
we got some drops of rain so we took a
short pause…soon as we realized the rain
was takin it’s time a’comin’ we got back
on da stage & did “Like A Rollin Stone”
and da folks came strollin back towards
the music…luv dat….”Comin Home” soothed
da beast… looked out & saw Johnnie from
the Western Pa Blues Society, looked
over & saw ole pal Cornel Bogdan & his
wife Karen rockin strong with
photographer Melissa Durst. Brice Foster
sang “If I Had A Child” while me & Harry
Bottoms did some BGV’s..we sent “Burnin
Up” out to Cindi…..da rain came back
with some force, so we wrapped it up
lickity split…truth is, dis was nothing
but a party…….

innocent in da house, might a scared a
couple of em……..saw Shooter & George
Marcinko…….”Boilermaker” sizzled as did
the house at the mention of Glenn
Pavone’s name…after all, da BIG CHEEZE
is da guy dat put dat tune on da map,
